This I Believe Essay
I believe in defying gravity.
When my feet leave the ground I feel free.
I begin to soar. To coast. To feel the wind through my hair.
To feel the air engulf my body and carry me through space.
I stretch my arms farther. Pull my legs in tighter. Throw myself harder and propel myself upwards.
Past the constraints of life, the chains of rules and order. That’s what we do. We set our own boundaries. We test how far we can go before we can’t go any farther, can’t punch the floor any harder, can’t see any clearer, and can’t feel anything anymore.
No one can tell you what you can’t do. You continue to beat the odds and prove everyone wrong until your body can no longer give out anymore.
In this sport, when you are competing, everything is limitless except for time. You are given a minute and half to show them what you got.
A minute and half to prove that you have what it takes. To prove you are the strongest. You are the fastest. You are unique. And that you can do what others believe can never be done.
That you can do the impossible, flawlessly.
My moment was dwindling, coming to an end as my body straightened out and neared the ground.
In that split second the spinning world that was nonexistent for the last minute and half flashed in front of my eyes as I hit the floor.
Stick. I am a gymnast and I believe that I can defy gravity.
